Work in logistics

Adam started to work at House of Work 2 months ago and works as an order picker and trainer in logistics. Meet Adam and his experiences working in logistics!

“My name is Adam, I'm from Slovakia and I worked there as an administrative worker for 2 years. It was always my dream to move to the Netherlands with my girlfriend and work here and that dream finally came true 2 months ago when we started to work at Nippon Express. We live together with another friend of ours in a hotel located on the coast. It is and hour drive to work but we have tos ay it's well worth it because we love working at Nippon.”

That’s amazing to hear! Why was living and working specifically in the Netherlands always your dream? Have you been here before?

“We got to the Netherlands for the frist time during July this year for a vacation and instantly fell in love with the country. Not even 3 weeks after we returned home we were all sitting in my car scared but also excited to go back, but this time not for a vacation but for work. So I have to say my first experience with working here is through House of Work.”

What a great story! And what are your experiences so far in the Netherlands?

“It is much different than my home country. I miss many things like the mountains, cold mornings and much more but the Netherlands is something completely different and exciting in new ways. It's great having the sea 20 minutes from my home and seeing ships from my window. The road network here is a wonder and makes it very easy and convenient to get anywhere fast. But most importantly the people I met here are all very kind and willing to help.”

And what exactly do you do at Nippon Express?

“At Nippon I do order picking. Well at least that's what I was doing when I started there. Now I also do training among other things.”

Do you like this work?

“It might sound weird but for me order picking is kind of a relaxing activity and it reminds me of playing tetris. As for being a trainer, I get to meet new people all the time and show them this amazing company.

Time flies when I work because you never get bored there but you also don't get pushed too hard to reach a quota. I have to say the atmosphere is very relaxed. I also have a great foreman that I would like to shout out in here, Tim you are great!”

What are the benefits of working at Nippon (through House of Work)?

“Well, I can't really tell you any advantages because I can't compare it to anything else since this is my first job in the Netherlands, but I asked a lot of people I met here and they all agreed that working at Nippon is one of their most favorite jobs they had in the Netherlands. As for House of Work, it's really great to have a dedicated Job Coach that I can rely on. Mine is Constantin and I can ask him any questions and he will always help me and my friends out.”

What do you think about working in logistics?

"For me it's very interesting. I'm still new to logistics and am learning alot but so far I have to say it's a very complex field that I'm excited to grow in and explore.”

Are there any other things you would like to add or say in this interview? For example, what you like or dislike? About your work or experiences in the Netherlands?

“The Netherlands is great because almost everyone here speaks English, which is a language that we all learn either at school or through watching movies and can understand at least a bit. So it makes it easy to communicate with everyone. Working at Nippon as I said is great because of the relaxed atmosphere, you also have a lot of different job positions here so everyone can find something they like, but I also have to mention my colleagues that are great to work alongside with. They are all willing to help, but also great to talk to during free time. House of Work has been pretty great so far, we get paid on time, we get help when we need it, especially in critical situations. The only issue was the accommodation, but since there is three of us and we have some requirements that might be hard to meet. I understand that it can be difficult to find something that is a bit closer to work, but I have faith in this job agency.”

Thank you so much for this interview Adam! Thank you for sharing your story and experiences with us.
We wish you a very good time here in the Netherlands and thank you for your daily motivation and commitment to our company.
Keep up the good work!
